Weld/Fabrication Tradesman

Crawford Company is seeking applicants for the position of Welder/Fabrication Tradesman within the Fabrication Division. This position is part of a custom fabrication team at Crawford North in Dubuque, Iowa.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to plan layouts and determine material requirements.
  • Measure, mark, and cut raw materials using tools like plasma cutters, torches, and power saws. Communicating with shop management and team on all safety, maintenance, and production needs.
  • Position, align, and secure parts using clamps and jigs. This often involves tack-welding components to ensure they meet exact specifications before final welding.
  • Join metal components using various processes such as MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), or Stick (SMAW) in multiple positions, including flat, vertical, and overhead.
  • Inspect finished welds for durability and precision. Use calipers and weld gauges to verify tolerances and ensure work meets AWS D1.1 or other industry standards
  • Grind, deburr, and polish completed products to remove defects and prepare them for painting or installation.
  • Perform routine maintenance on welding machines and fabrication tools to ensure safety and operational efficiency
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Possesses a minimum of 1 year of welding experience is preferred, but willing to train.
  • Experience in blueprint reading, welding, cutting, fabrication, and painting of structural steel
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
